Why We’re Here

The challenge(s) we are facing

Verbier Festival has expanded.
The ecosystem has grown more complex.
New audiences have emerged, expectations have shifted, digital behaviours have moved on. And the international ambition keeps growing.
The Brief
Verbier has grown into something bigger than the identity built to express it. What’s needed now isn’t recalibration, it’s reinvention … Our Understanding
An identity ready to match its ambition. Our Understanding

Our Goals

To reinvent

Identity

An identity that matches where the Festival is heading, not where it has been.

Audience

A renewal and expansion of audience among culturally curious adults without loosing existing devotees.

Desirability

An increase in desirability that comes from openness, not exclusivity, accessibility as a strength, not a trade-off.

Partners

Clearer brand proposition through strengthening of core identity to attract premium partners and sponsors.

Structure

A concise brand structure while preserving richness of eco-system.

How might we stay desirable to the next generation of audiences without trading away the prestige and the richness of the existing ecosystem? Accessibility vs Prestige

Our Analysis

The challenge(s) at hand

Our Impression

Experiencing Verbier Festival

Every summer, for a few weeks, Verbier breathes to the rhythm of music. Young students, violin cases on their backs, running late, dreaming big. Hours later, they’re in the front row, listening to the artist they’ll become in twenty years, who smiles back at them. The anticipation before the first note of Chopin’s Nocturne, a gate to another sphere.

A late drink turning into an encounter with Martha Argerich in the hotel lobby, past midnight. Steven Isserlis behind you at the bakery, deep in the phrasing of Brahms’ Double Concerto’s Andante.

This is what Verbier Festival means to me. A place where we come together and breathe as one. – Irena Koblar

Irena had warned us Verbier Festival is special. And it is. The village was alive, generations, nationalities, musicians and locals mixing together. Warm and welcoming. Mountains all around, music everywhere you turned, the artists close enough to talk to. It just feels like magic.

Competitive Field

Our competition

Direct competitor

Gstaad – Menuhin

Same country, same Alpine intimacy claim, the closest structural peer we have: an academy, a flagship orchestra, and family programming.

Indirect competitor

Luzern

Competes on a different curatorial axis and is built around a yearly theme and a landmark concert hall.

Both festivals claim musical excellence and inspiration as well as intimacy and connection.

Verbier was never conceived as «just» an excellent festival. Martin Engström built a talent launching board, and that is where the brand’s true distinctiveness lies. What truly sets Verbier apart

The 45-55 Age Group

Who are we talking to?

  • Peak earning years with high spending power
  • Brand-trusting, with their loyalty earned through consistency not hype
  • Pragmatic buyers who prefer quality
  • In “redefinition” years, reshaping value rather than chasing it
  • Drawn to depth and slowness, where conscious enjoyment trumps consumption

The 45-55 Age Group

How they perceive prestige

  • Consumer sentiment is moving toward experience over ownership
  • Luxury shifts from being admired to personal fulfilment
  • Prestige is driven by access and discernment, not visibility
  • An event that sells access, not goods, resonates more with this group

Summary of Analysis Insights

Brand Cosmos

We have two clear pillars and then a universe of complimentary and interconnected elements gravitating towards the core and make up the brand of Verbier Festival.

Competition

In a sea of sameness, Verbier owns a unique opportunity to truly distinguish themselves in their reason of being; providing a space for young talent and curating them first.

Target groups

Verbier has tailored a prestige offering since it‘s beginnings. With new consumer groups gaining in importance, a reviewed take on how to drive desire is required.

Which takes us back to the question…

How might we stay desirable to the next generation of audiences without trading away the prestige and the richness of the existing ecosystem?
04

Strategy

Early exploration of a strategic direction

Insight

Verbier’s exclusivity does not come from exclusion of audiences, but from the special access guests get to today’s and tomorrow’s biggest talents.

The rebrand should underline what signals Verbier’s prestige; its artists, its Academy, and its heritage, to appeal to the loyal buyers but pair it with greater accessibility, a tone and visual language closer to the next generation.

Strategic Platform

How to drive desire

  • Verbier is where the next generations of talent break through.
  • That distinctiveness is what makes it so desirable to attend.
  • Discovering new talent, and being present when it happens, is the story people tell.

Discovery

Discovery is one idea that lives in every layer of Verbier at once: in the Academy, on stage, in the audience.

What if discovery became more than that? What if it became a culture of its own, a cosmos that runs through the whole ecosystem?

Early exploration of a strategic direction

How we get there

The process

AttunementGet to know each other in Phase 1

Identity & positioningDefine the theme in Phase 3

Decisions at Every Gate

Every phase ends in a joint decision gate

  • You shape and approve before we move on.
  • The most important decision has to be made early on: following the analysis, we decide together whether it will be more of a recalibration or a complete reinvention.
  • 30+ years of equity aren’t overwritten. They are first understood, then carried forward.

Phase 1 – Attunement

Getting to know each other

  • Hold a kick-off workshop with your team
  • Map decision-makers: who decides, and when
  • Make stakeholders co-owners, so heritage is carried forward, not overwritten
  • Interview directors, marketing, les amis, sub-brand leads, and artists
  • Define what success looks like
  • Align on ambition and non-negotiables
  • Create one shared picture of where Verbier festival is heading

Phase 2 – Brand Status Quo

Listen closely

  • Draw a competitive analysis, reviewed together
  • Audit the brand, from core assets to real-world usage and touchpoints
  • Review the ecosystem and brand architecture in depth
  • Decide what to keep, what to evolve, and what to let go of
  • Decide, based on evidence, whether this is more of a recalibration or a complete reinvention.

Brand Audit

Status quo – basic assets, history key visuals

To be completed

Phase 3 – Identity & Positioning

Define the theme

  • Choose the brand model: fill it with purpose, values, and tonality
  • Write the positioning statement: the one idea that carries the identity
  • Define the brand architecture and per sub-brand: uniqueness vs. red thread?
  • Build the verbal identity: messaging, core narratives, communication hierarchy
  • Define audience priorities: who to win, and who not to lose
  • Treat the identity as the basis, so design won’t get just decoration by taste
That’s why we aren’t showing any specific design proposals here yet.

But If

“closeness” were to become a core value…

…then the colour world could move towards warmer tones: more human, less distant.

Phase 4 – Design

Let’s compose

  • Explore two to three visual directions, then refine
  • Build the asset system: logos, typography, colours, imagery, icons, patterns, layouts, principles of motion and sound
  • Define the naming in line with the architecture, and clear it for trademark
  • Define constants and variables that work across every touchpoint and language
  • Develop every application, from the website to merchandising

so, If

we would define «coming together» as a central element …

…we might discover great opportunities in elements that already exist.

The V-shape

The V-shape for example embodies the theme of two things coming together already. The left & the right bar meeting at the centre.

We could think it as a visual idea, a core principle, to tell stories in many ways.

Iridescent glass forming a V
Two beams of light forming a V
Overlapping planes forming a V
A conductor’s gesture forming a V

Phase 5 – Rollout & Handover

Curtain up

  • Roll out internally in September 2027, go public with the 2028 campaign, and take the stage at Festival 2028
  • Decide big bang versus phased rollout, then set touchpoint priorities (website first) and lead times for print, signage, and merchandise
  • Hand over the assets: source files, guidelines, and a sponsor toolkit, packaged as one online platform
  • Train your team, and provide templates

What if the Brand Could Be Heard?

Sound logo

  • For a music institution, identity wouldn’t have to stop at the eye – a sonic signature could become part of the system
  • What if the world’s finest composers wrote it – and the world’s finest musicians performed it?
  • And the making of it could become the reveal story itself during the rollout and go live

Rate Card and Margins

Why JEFF prices by the work created

Rate Card

At JEFF we are strong believers that clients should only pay for the value created and not for job titles.

We anchor rates to the nature and difficulty of the task, so every scoped task has a clear price tag. Title-based rates distort staffing; from our point of view, work-type rates put the right level of talent where it matters.

Forecasting gets clearer: we estimate hours per work type, then reconcile actuals so budgets stay auditable. Clients avoid paying partner rates for routine tasks and even benefit when seniors execute tasks faster in fewer hours.

Bottom line: pricing the “what,” not the “who,” aligns incentives, clarifies value, and keeps budgets honest.

Margins

For all third-party costs, JEFF applies zero margin. These expenses are passed through at actual supplier rates, with quotes and invoices available for full transparency. Any discounts or rebates negotiated with vendors are passed directly to the client. Our revenue comes exclusively from our own work (the scoped services and hours), not from marking up external costs.

Agency Fees

Phase 1 – Attunement

In this phase it’s all about getting to know one another. We’re looking at kicking off with workshops, 1:1 interviews with key stakeholders, aligning on ambition, non-negotiables and success criteria.

Phase 2 – Brand status quo

In this phase we dive deeper into auditing the competition, the brand, understanding and reviewing the ecosystem. We decide on what to keep and evolve and what to let go of. A further workshop helps us intensely define the redesign.

Phase 3 – Identity & Positioning

We meet once again to collaborate on defining the brand model, core values, purpose, tonality as well as positioning and verbal identity. We treat the identity as the basis.

Phase 4 – Design

We finally look into 3-4 different design directions and work together to refine the elements that make up the new design of the Festival. We will go through multiple iterations.

Phase 5 – Rollout & Handover

Here it’s all about setting you up correctly to be able to handle the rebranding on your own. We will provide a full branding book, as well as the basic brand assets, supported by a in-person onboarding session.

Third Party Costs

Also currently quote in the budget are a photoshoot (CHF 10’000.-) and font licences (CHF 8’000.-).

What is not yet quoted are the trademark clearances, to run over the Festival directly. Also excluded is the rollout across all applications (website, offline and online marketing, presentations, merchandising, sponsorship materials, event communications).

Team JEFF

We have a core team in place for the project, led by two co-leads, that cover concept, project management, planning and implementation across all five phases.

Change management as well as ongoing project management over the full 24-month project are quoted under “overall project management”.

Reserve

We have a reserve of 10% of the total agency fee in place, to cover extra hours needed on the project.

Discount

We have applied a discount of 10% on the total agency fee.

Product Forum

Mercedes-Benz AG
Lead agency since 2016

The Briefing. The Product Forum is the most important international sales event of the Mercedes-Benz Group. Every year, more than 5,000 dealers and sales partners from over 170 countries are invited behind the guarded walls of the plant to experience the products and services of the years ahead. The task was never a single show. It was the complete customer journey for an audience that sells the brand for a living, at a scale where nothing can be left to improvisation.

The Idea. Rather than concentrating everything on one big stage, the future line-up is revealed across several venues, each with its own dramaturgy: a main show for the world premieres, “behind the scenes” formats in small groups, and driving experiences with prototypes. To hold it together, we built the “Product Forum Companion”: a digital guide that leads every guest through the programme, translates on the spot, and collects live feedback on products and presentations.

The Execution. Four two-day main shows, eight sideshows, three to four locations inside the plant. We cover creative concept and event branding, show staging, media production and show calling, guest management and digital guidance, production planning, technical direction and stand construction. Lead agency since 2016, confirmed again in an international pitch, with the mandate running through 2028.

Re-branding Hôtel de Verbier

Hotel de Verbier SA
Verbier · on the ground

The Briefing. Hôtel de Verbier was purchased in March 2018 and underwent significant renovation before reopening in 2020. To match the transformation of the property, a new corporate identity (CI/CD) was needed.

The Idea. Not just a refresh of the existing identity, but a full relaunch of Hôtel de Verbier for a new era. The approach had to honour the hotel’s history (family-owned since 1947), reflect its local surroundings, and acknowledge the Scandinavian roots of the new owners. The output had to target a 4-star-plus market, run itself with minimal upkeep, and feel current in 2019, while still holding up tomorrow.

The Execution. We worked hand in hand with the owners from the start, favouring joint working sessions over one-way presentations. Every iteration was pressure-tested with multiple focus groups before moving into full development, keeping the direction grounded in the market, not just in our own instincts.

Breguet Tradition, the Art of Design

Montres Breguet SA
25 markets

The Briefing. Through three brand pillars, history, product, innovation, reinforce Breguet’s communication, elevate its perceived value, and improve the client experience. The rollout was to span 25 markets across events, digital, PR and retail, targeting a new audience of clients aged 20 and up, while keeping existing collectors engaged.

The Idea. Conceptualise a communication universe that reframes the collections, creating an emotional connection to the brand while staying true to Breguet’s core savoir-faire. We kept each collection distinct, underlining its individuality through its own tailored universe rather than one blanket concept.

The Execution. We developed a Breguet Brand Collection Guideline for all Breguet affiliates and partners working with the brand. One booklet per collection, each serving as a guide for bringing the brand to life consistently, letting clients enter and discover Breguet’s universes. The booklets provided graphic elements, templates, and roadshow, display and live activation concepts in small, medium and large formats, for both point of sale and external events.

Re-branding Seacell

Smartfiber International AG
Global

The Briefing. The newly appointed CEO of SMARTFIBER AG, wanted to modernise the brand and put its innovative fibres, SEACELL and SMARTCEL, back in the spotlight. The existing identity and digital presence had fallen behind, limiting the brand’s visibility just as its products were becoming more relevant, not less.

The Idea. Not just a new look, but an identity that finally matched what SMARTFIBER AG had already become: an eco-friendly, health-focused innovator in textiles. The real challenge sat one level deeper than the surface refresh: unifying the umbrella brand with its two sub-brands, SEACELL and SMARTCEL, so each kept its own character while reading as part of one coherent family, distinguishable, but never disconnected.

The Execution. We began with a collaborative workshop, working closely with the client to identify what already worked in the existing identity and where the new direction needed to go. From there, we built a new corporate design and a website from scratch, partnered with a 3D animation artist on two key visuals to capture the natural essence of the brand, and ran a dedicated photo shoot to show the tactile relationship between the fabrics and skin. The project closed with a 40-page brand manual, which became the foundation for the website, flyers, and sales presentation, so the identity could travel consistently across every touchpoint.

ARTour

F. Hoffman-La Roche AG
Basel · still live

The Briefing. 2021 marked Roche’s 125th anniversary. Roche doesn’t sell directly to people which keeps the brand at a distance from the community it’s actually part of. The anniversary was the moment to close that distance: a chance to give something back to the local community and be seen up close, not just through intermediaries. The task: design an anniversary element for the local community that represents Roche and strengthens its roots in Basel and among the Basel population.

The Idea. Roche is defined by innovation, a pioneering spirit, and the habit of thinking decades ahead. Art was/is Roche’s chosen way of engaging the community, but art, by nature, can feel exclusive and inaccessible, which sits in direct tension with the closeness Roche was trying to build. Our idea sat exactly at the intersection of those two insights: ARTour Basel, a journey between the digital and physical world that makes art experienceable in a genuinely new way. Ten augmented reality artworks, discoverable through an app across the centre of Basel. We turned Roche’s pioneering spirit and its commitment to art into one single product.

The Execution. JEFF developed and led the entire product, from concept through the app to the launch campaign. To make sure the project would last well beyond the anniversary itself, we worked closely with partners who’d keep it alive long-term: Basel Tourism, the House of Electronic Arts Basel, and the City of Basel. The result is a permanent, free, city-wide art trail, still live today.
